Pre-visualizing
your print before the shutter is released is
critical in the photographic process. Many
of my photographs were taken for their
compositional qualities only, while
visualizing the possibilities to further
enhance the photograph. My work reflects
what I have tried to do with those
possibilities.

This
photograph was taken in Santa Barbara, CA, while
experimenting with a new camera and lens
combination. The composition was there, but the
tones in the catamarans were quite flat, so a
bit of saturation helped, along with the
application of one of Adobe CS4's paintbrushes.
The original is gallery canvas wrapped, 32" x
17".
Title,
"Hobie Cats".

The
hang gliders, one of 12 exposures made, were
taken in Draper, Utah. There are no image
alterations made, other than the background which
was added. Gallery canvas wrapped, 20" x
37". Title, "Easy Gliders". |

This
scene was photographed on Deer Creek Reservoir,
Utah in early spring. I was driving back to my
studio from another photo project when I passed
this scene, and kept on driving, not intending to
stop alongside the highway, cross the road, and
set up my gear. But the photo kept popping up in
my mind, so I eventually made a u-turn and shot 10
to 12 exposures, and
made
a few tonal adjustments before printing a gallery
canvas wrap, 36" x 16". Title,
"Spring Thaw".

Atmospheric
conditions and a high-level wind resulted in a
great composition of clouds. "Rage",
a photo taken from my front yard, seems to convey
an emotion of unrest and anger. A canvas gallery
wrap, 22" x 22".

"Winter
Aspens" was originally a color photograph,
but the B&W puts more emphasis on the
design and composition of the print. 24" x
24" canvas gallery wrap.
